  1. Measure clients' bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, papillary distance, and optical centers of eyes, using measuring devices. 
  2. Verify that finished lenses are ground to specifications.
  3. Prepare work orders and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.
  4. Assist clients in selecting frames according to style and color, and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions.
  5. Maintain records of customer prescription, work orders, and payments.
  6. Perform administrative duties such as tracking inventory and sales, submitting patient insurance information, and performing simple bookkeeping. 


Salary: The lowest paid optician earns $20,000 and the highest paid optician earns $54,000 per year.

-I think this is a great career not only for the pay but also for the experience. The job requires skills that every person should have. I also gives you a better understanding about a lot of things like management and clerical and production.

Duties and Responsibilities: As an Enlisted Hospital Corpsman, you are expected to serve as an operating room technician, process dental X-rays and operate X-ray machinery, work in the field, construct dental crowns and bridges, help administer a wide range of preventive care, deliver emergency treatment in the field, maintain patient treatment records, administer medications and perform clinical tests.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required to become an Enlisted Sailor in the medical support field in the navy. It is required that those seeking a Hospital Corpsman position be U.S citizens and should have a sincere interest in providing general health care. They must relate well and work well as part of a team.

-I would very much love to become a Medical Support in the Military. Not only would I be helping the sick and injured get better but I would also be serving my country.

Administrative duties include answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patients' medical records, filling out insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services, and handling billing and bookkeeping. Clinical duties vary according to state law and include: taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment, preparing patients, and assisting the physician during the examination.

Salary: Average wage of $13.30 an hour.


Education: Applicants usually need a high school diploma or equivalent. Some states require them to take a test or a course before they can perform certain tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities: Licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses typically do the same thing. They must monitor a patient's health for example the blood pressure. They must administer basic patient care, including changing bandages and inserting catheters. Provide for basic comfort of patients, such as helping them bathe or dress. They must discuss the care they are providing with the patient and listen to their concerns. Report patient's status and concerns to registered nurses and doctors. They must also keep records on patients' health.

Salary: $41,000+ per year.

Education; LPNs and LVNs must complete an approved educational program. These programs award a certificate or diploma and typically take about a year to complete, but may take longer. After completing a state-approved educational program, prospective LPNs and LVNs can take the National Council Licensure Examination and in passing the exam they will receive a certificate and work as an LPN or LVN.

Reflection; Do you thing you would like to become one? Why or why not?
-This career opportunity appeals to me because I want to enter into the medical field when I grow up. This particular job, though, is not what I would like to be. I would like to be a Registered Nurse. Although I would love to help take care of people and make them feel better, I think I would be best in a position of higher ranking.

You must support the patient by providing housekeeping and laundry services, shopping for food and other household requirements. Help patients care for themselves. Help family members care for the patient, and record patient information while maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy patient environment.

Salary: Around $22,000 per year.

Education: There is no standardized educational requirement for HHAs. In some states, not even a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Other states require HHAs to take preparation classes before they begin working.

Reflection: Do you think you would like to become one? Why or why not?
-This seems like a very appealing job with good pay but I would personally like a career that will challenge me and not just accept me even though I do not have a high school diploma or equivalent.
